A Chick-chick Here... In the City?

Yesterday in my local fish wrap there was an article entitled "Small 'urban poultry' movement has residents raising chickens from scratch," detailing how some city residents have taken to raising chickens (the online blog is available here.) This was exciting news to me as I had been under the (mistaken) impression that it was not legal to raise chickens in urban areas due to their status as livestock.

Surprisingly (to me, anyway) there appears to be a movement of sorts, related to the sustainability wave sweeping certain groups, to promote the earth-friendly practice of having folks raise and maintain their own chickens for eggs. There are a number of sites with answers to questions such as Backyard Chickens.com and the Just Food organization's site, The City Farms both of which you can get more information about getting started...

Now to convince my wife that I am willing to build a coop and care for the birds!
