Weather: Dreary, 43°F, 79% Humidity, Wind: From SSW @ 8 mph; feels like 46°F.
Course: Main Street Pittsford to the 490 Expressway overpass and back on the Erie Canal (3.22 miles each way).
Pace: 7:28 min./per mile
As I was huffing down the canal this morning, my mind began drifting into the bare bushes and bramble that dot the area along the trail. I remembered with some sadness that I hadn't seen many birds in our backyard recently and that this was unfortunate (and that I needed to make a point of "reloading" the suet and nyjer feeders in hopes of attracting some activity). As if on cue, I became aw re of a Downey Woodpecker (like the one pictured above) waiting on a tree trunk. Just ahead were two American Robins standing long the trail, as well as variety of Tree Sparrows(?) flitting among the bushes... Weird.
