Haiku

In recognition of the start of National Poetry Month today, April 1, I thought I might once again attempt to craft a poem a day (poem du jour!). I, like you maybe, am often inspired with a thought, idea, or observation, and at the fleeting moment am often unprepared to record it down... or if I do write down the idea (in the middle of the night, let's say) the three hours until I pick it up again is usually enough to shake me from delusion of grandeur.

Today during my break and sitting in the school library media center I recounted an earlier interaction between two birds I observed in the school courtyard directly outside my classroom window. I opted to use the haiku form:
Jays flit mid branches—
beak to tail, feather to beak…
why not “jeer” instead?
