Date: June 13, 2007
Time: 5:55-6:15 p.m.
Weather Report: Sunny, 60°F, 81% Humidity, Winds: From SW @ 6 mph; feels like 60°F.
Location: The backyard of our home in the upstate New York city of Rochester.
Bird Species/Markings/Features: 1 female American Robin (Turdus migratorius) and American Goldfinches (Carduelis tristis).
Sights/Sounds/Activities: The aviary community which uses our backyard as either a wait station or home seems to have grown quite a bit in recent weeks, especially the American Robins and American Goldfinches, like those pictured to the left and right playing at the cylindrical Nyjher feeder. It is not unusual to look out the kitchen window to see 3-5 birds either eating at or around the feeders, or waiting on nearby tomato cages for their turn.
Also, a pair of American Robins, in particular, seem to have triangulated our yard as its "Home," likely due to the fact that it has built its nest either on the house of in the surrounding trees. As you can see from the pics below, this bird, in particular, was observed flitting from the fence separating our yard from the neighbors, to the large tree in the left back corner, to the back of the house, and then back around again:
Notes: Now that Summer Recess is nearly here (two weeks and counting!) I'm hoping to become reacquainted, and more educated, with my backyard birdwatching.
